The BJFE Baby Blue OD 4K (BBOD 4K) is a 4-knob version of the BBOD, which was the origin of BJFE's products.
The earliest BBOD was called Fuzz1. Technically, the BBOD is a fusion of dynamic overdrive and fuzz designed with discrete circuitry. Its sound is unique, covering everything from highly sensitive low-gain drive to heavily compressed distortion.
In addition to asymmetrical clipping that creates a waveform similar to the distortion of an ECC83 preamp tube, it also produces a rounded tone by suppressing harmonic components. This is reminiscent of the distortion that occurs when the output transformer's limits are exceeded in a push/pull stage.
From a guitarist's perspective, this is the most natural and supremely sweet overdrive/fuzz pedal.
The BBOD color is the same color originally used on BJFE's BJ'63 Stratocaster, and was recreated by looking at the color remaining in the spring cavity of a 1961 Stratocaster. Incidentally, a Baby Pink OD, painted in pink, was once produced as a special gift of only one unit.
D knob: This control allows you to set various types of distortion, a wide range of gain, and sustain. Setting it low results in a sensitive distortion pattern, a sound that requires careful picking. Setting it high increases compression, which reduces responsiveness but provides a more stable distortion and a thicker sound. It's best to start shaping your sound with this control around the 11 o'clock position.
T Knob: Adjusts the high-frequency components of the output signal. It's also ideal for adjusting the tonal balance between when the device is ON and OFF. The BBOD 4K has particularly high treble response, and even with the Treble knob set to almost minimum (near maximum when turned counterclockwise), it can sometimes provide the best balance depending on the equipment it's paired with. If you need more treble, try setting this knob higher than the center (clockwise). Start shaping your sound with this knob around the 12 o'clock position.
B Knob: This is a newly added control in the 4-knob version. It controls the thickness and tightness of the low frequencies, allowing you to tighten or loosen the overall tone.
V knob: Adjusts the balance of signal levels when the effect is OFF and ON. Start by setting it to 12 o'clock, and then adjust the tone from there.
The BBOD 4K is designed for high-impedance guitar pickups. It's especially well-suited for low-output models, and when used with low-output passive pickups, you can freely adjust the gain using the guitar's volume control.
The output is designed for high-input impedance devices such as guitar amplifiers, many effects pedals, and tape echoes. However, connecting some low-input impedance devices, such as certain effects pedals, after the BBOD may cause it to malfunction.
The BBOD 4K operates on a 6F22 9V battery or a standard 2.1mm barrel-type center-negative DC 9V adapter. If the supply voltage drops, the sound will become muffled and the LED will dim. In that case, try replacing the battery or checking the connected adapter.
Condition: No problems with use. Points to note: Consigned used item. Accessories: Box. Warranty: No used item warranty as it is a consigned used item.
