The ENV1 CFG from Future Sound Systems is a dual voltage-controlled function generator whose circuitry is based on the FSS synthesizer. The two function generators have an identical design and are not coupled to each other. Each FG has controls for the attack and decay phases, a switch for exponential, linear or logarithmic curve progression for each phase, CV inputs with attenuators for each Phase and works either in loop, AD (attack/decay) or ASD (attack/sustain/decay) mode. In addition, the pulse output can be switched between End or Decay and Comparator.
This enables the module to generate AD and ASD envelopes with variable waveforms and LFO modulation up to the audio range. In loop respectively LFO mode, the "waveform" changes with the frequency. Other possible applications include trigger delay, pulse train generatorand frequency divider. If you patch End or Decay from the upper FG into the trigger input of the lower FG, you can, for example, build a four-stage envelope or, if you use the loop input, force the other FG to loop as soon as the first Decay Phase has expired.
With the ENV1 CFG, you can create both classic and unusual modulation sequences that are difficult or impossible to achieve with standard LFOs and envelopes and much more. If you are looking for a complex modulation source whose possibilities extend beyond the familiar paths, you should take a closer look at this module.
