TMH022 Black Mountain Roto-Echo

Third Man Hardware and Black Mountain have collaborated to create the innovative Roto-Echo delay pedal, catalogued as the TMH022. It represents a meaningful leap forward in how guitarists and other instrumentalists interact with delay effects, replacing the conventional finger-tweaking approach with something far more intuitive and performance-ready. The result is a pedal that doesn't just process your signal — it becomes an active part of your playing.

Freewheel Technology: Redefining Real-Time Control

At the heart of the Roto-Echo is its Freewheel Technology, which allows players to change delay parameters with their feet in real-time as they play. This seemingly modest shift in how controls are accessed turns out to be a profound one. Rather than stopping mid-performance to dial in a setting, a musician can sweep through delay time, blend, or feedback on the fly, making each performance dynamic and responsive. Players can sweep delay time to bend and warble pitch, morph feedback from short to infinite repeats, and ramp the wet/dry mix for dramatic effect. The creative possibilities this unlocks are substantial.

Analog-Style Sound with Stage-Ready Durability

The Roto-Echo delivers warm, gritty analog-style echoes with delay times reaching up to 600ms. This range covers everything from tight, slapback echoes to expansive, atmospheric repeats. The sound character stays true to the tactile, organic quality that many players associate with analog delay circuits, making it an appealing choice for those who value warmth and texture over clinical precision. The pedal is built tough, capable of handling a player's full body weight on stage without issue. This level of construction speaks directly to working musicians who need gear that can take a beating night after night on tour.

Versatile Design for Every Playing Environment

The Roto-Echo is the same size as a regular Boss-style guitar pedal and fits on any pedalboard. This means players don't need to redesign their rig to accommodate it — it slots right in alongside existing equipment. True bypass circuitry keeps your tone pure when the pedal is switched off, ensuring zero coloration of your dry signal when the effect isn't engaged. The pedal is designed for use both sitting and standing, making it built for performance in any context. Power requirements are straightforward: it runs on 9V, center negative power, the industry standard that makes it compatible with virtually every pedalboard power supply on the market.

Why Our Gear Experts Appreciate the TMH022

Our gear experts appreciate the TMH022 because it fundamentally changes their relationship with delay. By allowing foot-controlled adjustments to Time, Feedback, and Blend while playing, it frees hands to stay focused on the instrument. The ability to morph feedback from short to infinite repeats, ramp the wet/dry mix, and sweep delay time to bend and warble pitch means expressive, spontaneous performances become possible. Its rugged build and true bypass make it equally trusted in the studio and on the road.
