Yamaha has established a global reputation as one of Japan’s leading comprehensive musical instrument manufacturers. At the core of its bass lineup, the “BB (Broad Bass)” series has enjoyed the support of countless players for many years. While grounded in traditional design, this series has consistently pursued practicality on the front lines through a series of updates optimized for each era, making it a true symbol of the company’s craftsmanship and technical prowess.

This model, the “BBP,” is the top-of-the-line flagship model within the BB series. It is an instrument meticulously refined to meet the demands of professional use, incorporating Yamaha’s design philosophy cultivated over many years alongside cutting-edge technology. Thanks to a structure meticulously calculated down to the finest details and the selection of high-quality materials, it boasts an exceptionally high level of perfection in sound, playability, and durability.

The body features a three-ply construction with maple sandwiched between layers of alder. By combining woods with different characteristics, it achieves a high-level balance of a crisp, clear attack, rich mid-to-low frequencies, and excellent responsiveness. The neck employs a five-piece construction combining maple and mahogany to ensure rigidity and stability. Furthermore, in addition to the standard four-point bolt joint, the “Miter Bolting” system—which secures the neck from the back of the body at a 45-degree angle using two bolts—significantly enhances the fit between the neck and body. This structure minimizes string vibration loss, delivering powerful, expansive sustain and excellent tonal cohesion.

The fingerboard features a 21-fret design crafted from rosewood. It delivers a warm tone and provides a stable playing feel during fingering. Furthermore, by applying Yamaha’s proprietary “I.R.A. (Initial Response Acceleration)” treatment, you can experience the rich resonance and response typically found in instruments that have been played for many years right from the moment you pick it up. The fact that you can enjoy a vintage-like tone, as if it had been nurtured over time, from the very moment you hold it is a major appeal of this model.

The pickup configuration features a P/J layout with a split-coil (front) and single-coil (rear) pickup, both utilizing Alnico 5 magnets. It delivers a well-balanced output with tight, focused bass and clearly defined mid-to-high frequencies, ensuring a presence that won’t get lost even within a band ensemble. While staying true to the classic BB sound, it offers the flexibility to adapt to the modern music scene, delivering a versatile sound character suitable for a wide range of genres. The controls feature a simple layout with two volume knobs and a master tone control, offering intuitive operation. Even players accustomed to traditional basses will find it easy to handle without any sense of unfamiliarity.

The bridge features a design that accommodates both through-body string routing and 45-degree back-through routing. This efficiently transmits string vibration to the body, delivering a more direct and powerful tone. Furthermore, the combination of a brass saddle and a steel plate covers a wide range of tones, from clear and bright to warm and deep, allowing you to accurately express the nuances required by your playing style and the music.

In addition to the versatility inherent in the P/J pickup layout, the exquisite balance of tight, defined bass and clear, piercing treble ensures a strong presence within an ensemble. While powerfully supporting the low end of the entire band, the sound clearly defines the contours of each note, demonstrating high adaptability across all genres, from rock and pop to funk and jazz.

The YAMAHA BBP, a high-level fusion of tradition and innovation, is more than just a flagship model; it embodies the essence of an instrument that is trusted on stage. With its exceptional structural beauty, meticulously designed sound, and superb playability, this model harmonizes all these elements to fully unleash the player’s expressiveness and deliver unwavering performance in any setting. It is truly a perfected electric bass, worthy of a lifetime of use.

We encourage you to take this opportunity to consider it.
