Here's a truly stunning Ludwig Sky Blue Pearl, Super Classic set with some extremely interesting history.
In October of 2005, Charlie Watts visited my old drum shop in Bellevue, WA while The Rolling Stones were in Seattle on their Bigger Bang tour. Charlie had been a long time customer and asked "if it would be alright" if he visited the store while he was in town. His visit was the highlight of my 17 years of owning a brick and mortar drum store. Charlie spent about 3 hours geeking out, digging through parts, and shopping for cymbals, snares and pedals. Charlie even surprised everyone by taking a drum lesson from one of our teachers after hearing his student in one of our teaching rooms.
I had set this 1968 Sky Blue Pearl Ludwig set up on the sales floor hoping it might remind Charlie of his 1965 Sky Blue set. He ended up using the set to test out the various pedals, cymbals and snares he was buying. Luckily, we managed to take some pictures while Charlie was playing the set. Copies of both photos of Charlie playing this set are included.
For those of you who are curious, he went home that day with several Speed King bass pedals, a Keplinger snare drum, a Masterwork China cymbal, a Ludwig "Gold Coast" cocktail set and a 1960s Pearl tuning key.
The set remains in excellent++ condition with no notable issues. It's an easy 9 out of 10. 65XXXX serial #s on all drums. There's some minuscule scuffing on some of the chrome hardware, some chipped paint on the bass hoops and the mufflers on the toms have been removed. The finish is nearly flawless. Clear maple interiors on 3 ply shells. The pictures tell all.
To be 100% clear. Charlie Watts did not own this set. He played the set extensively while visiting my shop in 2005. This is likely the only opportunity you will ever have to own a drum set played by the drummer in the greatest rock 'n' roll band of all time.
