Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic 1960's era Shure Brothers 55SW model dynamic cardioid microphone based on the more common 55S of that time. The 55SW mic was basically the exact same microphone as the 55S except that the 55SW had the built in on / off switch on the lower pistol grip. It comes with a period Shure S37A model desk stand in which to display.

It should be noted however that while the mic does still work, the signal strength is slightly weaker and void of bass. The element has been compromised and should not be used for anything other than display or prop purposes unless a great working replacement element is installed.

It will look very nice anywhere it sits in your home, office or studio and would make a nice award for somebody in the broadcasting or music industry.

Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old Shure catalog along with it's basic characteristics. The 55S series did not have an on / off switch when it was first sold in 1951 so in 1960 the 55S was sold as the 55SW with the on / off switch.

Pic # 3 shows the S37A as well along with other Shure accessories.

This 55SW is very nice but not physically perfect. The satin chrome shows just very lite cosmetic wear in the form of tiny pitting. The mic has a very nice luster however. Zero deeps scratches in the satin chrome finish. There are zero bent or fractured ribs on this mic. The Shure label shows virtually no wear and completely legible. The original foam screens were completely falling apart so I replaced them with new black foam that looks very nice. This mic is solid...no loose parts inside or out.

I take the time to secure the inner element as it's held in place with 3 shock mounts that wear out with age.

The threads for the cable are excellent and the joint mechanism holds strong. The threading for the stand is perfect as well and this will screw onto any desk or floor stand you wish to use though a stand is provided.

As you can see the 55SW comes with a Shure S37A model mic stand and it's very nice. It makes for a very handsome and stable platform. The stand is an all aluminum design that is quite aggressive looking and has a very modern mid century vibe.

You can see there is virtually no wear on the original finish and it's free of any dents or fractures. The 4 original rubber pads are in good shape with lite wear. It comes with the original mounting bolt and cable clamp.

The stand with mic is appx 10 1/2 inches tall X 4 inches wide X 6 inches deep.

As with all my vintage microphones...
