Faithful Vintage-Inspired Circuit Design

At the heart of the WA-87 R2 is a carefully recreated circuit based on the classic 1960s microphone design that inspired it. Warm Audio uses premium components including a NOS Fairchild transistor, WIMA and Nichicon capacitors, and a custom CineMag USA output transformer to deliver a sound that closely reflects the warmth and depth of the original microphone.

The microphone also features the WA-87-B-50V capsule, a reproduction of the classic dual-backplate K87 capsule design, allowing the WA-87 R2 to produce the smooth and balanced tonal response engineers expect from a vintage 87-style mic.

Versatile Studio Workhorse

The WA-87 R2 is built to handle a wide range of recording applications. With three selectable polar patterns—cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-8— the microphone adapts easily to vocals, acoustic instruments, drum overheads, piano, strings, brass, and more.

Additional controls include an 80Hz high-pass filter to reduce unwanted low-frequency rumble and a –10 dB pad for capturing louder sound sources without distortion.

The WA-87 R2 features a nickel-plated brass body and a redesigned rounded wire-mesh head basket that provides more open space around the capsule, contributing to a smoother frequency response.
