Steve Ferrone's George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty 1990s Pearl Masters Complete Drum Set
There are bad asses, and there are BAD ASSES!! Steve Ferrone would be the later.
In the world of "first call” drummers, Steve Ferrone is the first one they call. Just ask Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, George Harrison, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, Rick James, Slash, Chaka Khan, Bee Gees, Al Jarreau, Mick Jagger or Johnny Cash. When iconic bands like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Average White Band, Duran Duran and Aerosmith needed to replace their “irreplaceable” drummers, Steve Ferrone was the guy who stepped up.
Steve played a lot of drums throughout his career and he's saved almost every one of them. He has drums from Ludwig, Pearl, DW, Gretsch, Rogers and more. Some are custom made, some are rare prototypes, all are stellar drums. Nothing made it into his collection unless it was exceptional.
This drum set is dripping with rock vibe. Steve played this set in live and recorded performances from 1990 until about 2002, his busiest and most eclectic era. He started playing the set in 1990 as a member of Eric Clapton's band. By 1991 he was touring with George Harrison and recording with Duran Duran. During this period that he met Mike Campbell which led to Steve joining Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers in 1994. He continued playing this set with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers until 2002.
The set can be heard notably on Eric Clapton's 24 Nights recorded at 24 consecutive shows at London's and Royal Albert Hall, Duran Duran's Ordinary World recorded at Abbey Road Studios.
The set can be seen featured with Steve on the cover of the May, 1995 issue of Modern Drummer Magazine.
During this period he played the set in a variety of configurations making use of every drum in the 8 drum set.
The set has been professionally handled and maintained since it was first played in 1990. It remains in excellent condition with no notable damage. There's some very minor scuffs and scratches and some minor pitting on some of the chrome hardware. Otherwise it's 100% ready to rock with no issues.
See and hear the set in action with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers in the attached 2001 video.
The set also includes a custom "wired" Pearl rack, wired with installed mic cables for the whole set. All cables have been tested and are fully functional. Steve's original settings are still marked with labels and gaff tape. The complete wired rack with all tom and cymbal arms, cables and fittings, is included (see photos).
