The Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II 128MB at a glance:

With the EP-133 K.O. II 128MB, Teenage Engineering presents the successor to the EP-133 K.O. II sampler/sequencer, featuring twice the RAM. At first glance, it might remind you of a pocket calculator from the 1980s, but this does not do justice to the qualities of this meticulously designed musical instrument, which features a Super Segment hybrid display and twelve velocity-sensitive trigger pads. The EP-133 K.O. II 128MB is essentially a 12-track device; polyphony is 12 voices for stereo samples and 16 voices for mono samples. With a sample rate of 46 kHz / 16-bit, the sound quality is certainly of studio standard. The internal memory is specified as 128 MB and offers space for 999 samples. As most one-shot samples are quite short, there is still enough space left for stereo samples, freshly sampled audio from the audio input and vocals recorded using the built-in microphone. In Song Mode, you can store nine songs, each with a length or total capacity of up to 80,000 notes.

Memory Management & Sequencer

The sampler manages a total of nine projects, each with a capacity of 80,000 notes. A project contains four sets of 99 patterns, each of which can have a maximum pattern length of up to 99 bars. Each pattern has twelve tracks for samples and MIDI; a chromatic mode is also available for playing samples tonally, and loops can be run in grid-synced mode. Notes are recorded in Live Mode, and a metronome can be activated for rhythmic guidance. Thanks to the 12 punch-in effects, you can effortlessly create rhythm changes, fades and breaks on a note-by-note basis, turning every beat on its head in an instant. The samples within a pattern can be edited using standard parameters such as level, pitch, filter, A/R envelope, pan, etc. There are also six high-quality audio effects and a master compressor.

Connections

The device initially connects to the outside world via the built-in speaker. Inputs and outputs for stereo line, MIDI and sync are provided via 3.5mm stereo jack sockets. Power is supplied either via USB-C or four AAA batteries. USB-C is also used for data transfer to a computer and MIDI integration with the DAW. Audio is not transmitted via this connection.
