Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a rare and unique variant of the 1970's Shure Brothers 565 and 565S (Unisphere 1) dynamic cardioid microphone. This very seldom seen model was the PE556 with dual Z impedance, XLR attachment. built in lower shock mount that comes with the rare gold finish. It also comes with a longer cable, lower LO-2B Atlas on / off stand adapter and a new exterior foam pop filter for improved sound performance.

Pic # 2 is from an old Shure catalog showing this very model and other variants of the 565 model. A very high quality Shure product that can compete with even the best dynamic cardioid mics of today. Many of these older models had an even higher quality build which is testament to why 50 years later they still work like new and sound amazing.

This 565 series was introduced in the early 1960's and was a widely used mic by many famous musicians like Jimi Hendrix as seen in pic # 3. The PE566 utilized the exact same cartridge but you'll notice that the 566 has the beefy lower shock mount with the revolutionary (and practical) XLR cable attachment as well as an impedance switch that is just beneath the cover but the cover has the exterior switch as well so you can do it without removing the cover.

The 565 series microphone had a reputation of being very rugged and durable much like the SM-58 microphone of today. Just slightly less bass than an SM-58 but the frequency response on these 565 series mics is very impressive and it has a very bright responsive tone. Sounds just like the day it was first manufactured. This mic is an excellent choice for both broadcasting and singing purposes and excellent uni-directional characteristics blocking out most background noise.

This mic came in the 566 model which had the satin chrome finish or you could special order the PE566 with the gold plated finish depending on your personal tastes.

As you can see in the pictures provided the gold finish does show heavier cosmetic wear from decades of use. It's hardly perfect but still not too shabby. The barrel of the mic shows most of the the loss of gold plate due to being handled so often over the years. There is some very lite pitting and tint scratches here and there. The black plastic cartridge looks very nice as does the Shure label that encircles the lower globe. The gold plated globe shows typical wear in the form of a very subtle dent and lite tarnish but there is a new inner foam liner / pop filter under the globe to help with unwanted feedback from wind or strong breathing. The impedance switch works perfectly giving you either Hi Z or Low Z depending on your needs. It's currently set on Low Z but you can switch to Hi Z if needed. No loose parts.

It should be noted that the threading for the stand is not stripped but I installed the ebony Atlas LO-2B which keeps that issue from starting in the first place. Instead of having to unscrew the mic from the stand every time you get done using it...you can simply remove the mic with the push of a button on the adapter allowing you to quickly remove the mic. It's a very practical design and saves the threading on the mic. The LO-2B is a 2 piece design and shows just lite physical wear. It looks great on the mic as well.

The joint mechanism is in great working condition which allows you to angle the mic accordingly as needed. It has adjustable tension via side screw. I cleaned the XLR pins on this mic too ensuring a perfect signal. This mic is an easy 6 on a scale of 1 - 10 physically speaking.

I'm including the new exterior black foam pop filter for improved performance allowing you to really get into the mic close and give it everything. It fits like a glove and looks great on the mic. You might not need it for all situations but tit's there for when you do.

The mic comes with the original 22 foot cable that has the gold plated Cannon XLR connector for the mic and a Standard male Switchcraft male 1/4 inch end connector for your audio equipment. Cable is soft pliable and in very good physical and excellent operating condition and you have more than enough length for any stage or studio work.

If you demand an excellent working PE566...look no further. If you need one that's in nicer condition I have a second model currently listed.

Hook this one up and you are ready for any live event.
