Here’s an interesting find! 1976 Fender Strat in not so easy to find original black finish. Most of the black 70s Strats I’ve come across have been stripped down to natural refinished wood. Cool to find an intact Blackie in this condition! I bought this Strat from a guy who claims to have purchased it from Stevie Ray Vaughan‘s sound engineer. I can’t confirm this, but I’d like to think it’s true. The prior owner did provide a letter talking about meeting SRV and his engineer Ron Cote.

It’s in great road worn condition with plenty of scratches scuffs finish chips/checks, buckle rash, dings, dongs and other signs of wear consistent with a well loved and played 70s rocker!

This old guitar looks to be mostly original. I’m guessing the bridge pick up was replaced with another old fender pickup and one of the pots looks to be replaced. Probably some of the wiring as well. I can send pictures of the underside of the pickguard if you’d like to see. I think the bridge is original, but let me know if somebody sees something that doesn’t look right. All electronics and hardware function as designed and all pick up selections have a nice variety of tones.

The neck is nice and straight. The truss is nearly loosened for comfortable light relief. Frets show wear, but ring well across the whole neck. There’s a finish loss along the edges on both sides of the fingerboard.

Weight 9.36 pounds

Includes original hard case with nice orange-ish red felt interior. Case shows plenty of signs of wear from decades on the road. All claps hinges metal feet handle and interior pocket cover are intact and functional. Amazingly - also includes original manual, Allen wrenches, and maybe even its original Fender strap! Non-smoking homes.

This is a wonderful guitar. I’m not a big Strat guy, but this is another one that has changed my opinion of what a Strat can do! Whether or not there is an actual connection to SRV, you’re looking at a historic old vintage Strat that has a ton of Mojo!
