NOTE: Heads up -- At the very end of the description -- I have a long list of the other mallets that I have listed on Reverb.

==

Up for grabs is a new old stock Gambal (Gambal Manufacturing) GPXH1 (UG13GPXH1) Percussive Keyboard MALLETS [for Xylophone and Glockenspiel (aka Bells or Orchestra Bells)].  1 and 1/4 inches Gray Very Hard Nylon Heads / Black Synthetic Shafts. With original packaging. From 1990s to early 2000s.

NOTE: I'm not a percussionist - therefore I am not very familiar with percussive / keyboard mallets. These are very hard mallets - but I am having trouble distinguishing whether or not the heads of the GPXH-1 mallets are nylon to acrylic. I put nylon- but they may be acrylic. Unfortunately there is NO info about Gambal mallets anywhere online. And since they are discontinued and since the Gambal Manufacturing company is not longer in existence (for making mallets) there is no information available for me to refer to.

As you can see the upper and lower areas of the heads are flat (flat ball heads -- are they considered a type oval shape?? - if anyone knows - please let me know).

Only the one pair of GPXH-1 Mallets are for sale in this listing. But I also have one pair each of the following model GAMBAL MALLETS on hand that I plan to list in a day or so: GPD1 and GPHR1. After I list them - I will add the REVERB links in the description of this listing.

And I have these Gambal Mallets (GPN, GPMR, GPL, GPXR-1) each listed in a separate REVERB listing. Here're the REVERB links for them:

Back to information about the GPXH1 Mallets that are for sale in this listing.

The heads are Very Hard.

  • As I stated above- I put the material that the heads are made of as Nylon. But they might actually be acrylic. You would know better than me (esp since I'm not a percussionist and since I'm not familiar with these mallets and since there is NO info anywhere about Gambal mallets).

Measurements:

  • Full length: 15 and 1/8 inches
  • Ball Diameter: 1 and 1/4 inches (1 and 1/4")
  • Height of the Flat Ball Head: slightly less that 3/4 inch (slightly less than 3/4")
  • Length of Shaft: 14 and 1/4 inches

These mallets are NO longer in production.

  • NOTE: Since around 2002- 2003 - Gambal Manufacturing is NO longer in business.
  • But Gambal Music makes and sells Leather Cymbal Straps and Pads through a couple of music stores and / or percussion companies.

Uses:

  • Xylophones: Hard nylon mallets on a xylophone produce a bright, sharp, and articulate sound with a strong attack, due to the hardness of the nylon material which creates a clear, cutting tone, often used when needing high projection and clarity in the sound; essentially, a very distinct and defined sound compared to softer mallet options.
  • Glockenspiels: Hard nylon mallets are a good choice for glockenspiels because they can produce a piercing, sustained tone.
  • Crotales and cup chimes: Hard nylon mallets are a good choice for crotales and cup chimes.

I  got these mallets back in 2005 (even back then - they were in "new" old stock condition).

I was planning to sell them sooner- but was kind of busy. Finally getting a chance to sell them now.

With the exception of imperfections from how the mallets were manufactured and natural imperfections - the mallets are in excellent shape. That's why I put the condition as EXCELLENT instead of MINT.

The packaging (paper part and plastic part) is in between Very Good and Good shape.

The mallets were never used.

Each of the HEADS is very clean.

  • NOTE: the top center area of each head has very small bump from how the mallets were manufactured. Also the head of of one the mallets has a few extremely light extremely short dash-line surface scratches (just on the surface- NOT deep).
  • And for both mallets - going around the outer curved sides - there are several extremely light circular surface line from how the heads or the mallets were manufactured.

SHAFTS:

  • The black color of the SHAFTS is black with a dark and light gray blend of colors.
  • The shafts are NOT made of wood.
  • The shafts are synthetic. I don't know the exact type of synthetic material that they are made of. They feel like a very hard plastic (like a PVC) type of material.
  • The shafts have play - meaning they are a little flexible.
  • Both shafts are straight.

NOTE (more info about the shafts):

  • I'm not a percussionist - but from what I read from the little information that I found online about Gambal mallets - the shafts are known to flex more when used. The term WARP was used by someone in a post that I read.
  • Please keep this in mind - that there is a chance that the shafts of these mallets are made / designed in a manner where they will flex (are supposed to flex) - for response, action, pitch. etc. And the amount of flexing will depend on how you utilize them and how often you use them.
  • Please NO returns.

Since Gambal Manufacturing is no longer in business - there is very little information about Gambal Manufacturing mallets.

Also Gambal Mallets are very rare nowadays.

The packaging (paper part and the plastic bag part) --

PAPER PART -

  • The paper part of the packaging has some visible not too light / not too deep unevenness and some visible - but not too serious - creases, a few small dot impressions, and a few tiny staple holes. Also the areas on / near a few of the corners have creases & light very wear and there is a little wear on some of the edge areas. The upper edge has light - but visible fading in / on the black color. The FRONT Upper Left Edge (which is the BACK Upper Right Edge) has a short tear.
  • You can also see the creases, impressions, and imperfections on the edge / corners on the White INNER Side of the paper packaging. And the White INNER Side of the paper part has some aging / slight yellowing.
  • Most of these imperfections are visible on both sides of this paper (Outer Color Sides and Inner White Sides).
  • The information of the model of the mallets GPXH-1 is written with red pen.

PLASTIC BAGGIE -

  • The plastic baggie a lot of visible creases & a lot of unevenness, some tiny nicks, some cloudiness, some very light surface scratches, some very light surface scuffs, and the the black graphic near the letter G has faded. There are also some tiny staple holes and the clear color of the baggies has aged a little in color.

I took several pictures of the mallets and there are a couple pictures of the packaging.

NOTE: For the MALLETS -- There may be a few minor imperfections that I overlooked. There maybe a few minor imperfections that can be seen in person that do not appear in the pictures. Also - there are some imperfections (glares, reflections. dust specks) that show up in the pictures that are not that visible in person.
