Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a classic 1960's era Shure Brothers 55S model dynamic cardioid microphone based on the 55SW & PE55 of that time. The 55S series mic was introduced in 1951 and was the smaller version of the 55 "Fatboy" sold during the 1940's. The 55S was sold until the late 1970's until it evolved into the 55SH and was then discontinued. It had a long run and was one of the most successful models sold from Shure Brothers. It comes with an original Shure S37A model desk stand in which to display.
It should be noted right away that the mic itself is 100% complete but the element is very weak therefor it should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. Due to it's nice physical appearance it would make a great award for anybody in the music or broadcasting industry.
This 55S was the last of the series as Shure Brothers sold the mic with black foam inserts / pop filter around 1965. This mic came to me with what was left of the foam. It was degrading and falling apart so they were professionally replaced and the mic looks very nice overall. I would rate this mic and stand a true 8 on a scale of 1 - 10. It's a very nice example.
The satin chrome shows just very lite cosmetic wear. The mic has a very nice luster too. Zero scratches in the satin chrome finish. Just a few small bubbles here and there. There are zero bent or fractured ribs on this mic. The Shure label shows lite wear but completely legible. Again, the original foam screens were replaced. This mic is solid...no loose parts inside or out.
I take the time to secure the inner element as it's held in place with 3 shock mounts that wear out with age.
The threads for the cable are excellent and the joint mechanism holds strong. The threading for the stand is perfect as well and this will screw onto any desk or floor stand you wish to use.
The mic also comes with an original Shure S37A model mic stand as seen in pic # 3. It's just as nice as the mic. It makes for a very handsome and stable platform. The stand is an all aluminum design that is quite aggressive looking and has a very modern mid century vibe.
You can see there is just a few small scratches in the finish and it's free of any dents or fractures. The 4 original rubber pads are in excellent shape as well.
The stand with mic is appx 10 1/2 inches tall X 4 inches wide X 6 inches deep.
As with all my vintage microphones...
