LOMO / CKBK 19a33 (1980, #810015) - Soviet Dual-Capsule Microphone

This is one of the only known fully working examples of this microphone in the world. It comes directly from Russian Recording's working mic locker, where it has been used on countless records and meticulously maintained for peak studio performance.

CKBK 19A33 (1980)

This 1980 CKBK 19A33 was manufactured in-house by the Central Bureau of Engineering for Cinema Equipment and is likely from the first year of production. It is nearly identical to the later LOMO version aside from minor cosmetic details, connector types, and PSU styling. In two decades of collecting, we have seen only two complete working examples: this CKBK and a 1981 LOMO, both listed separately.

The 19A33 is among the most technically unusual Soviet microphones. Each mic houses two proprietary 20 mm capsules spaced a few inches apart and angled 120 degrees away from each other. The included PSU and remote let you electronically point the pickup up to 120 degrees to either side for a total sweep of 240 degrees. Set the dial to the center to use it as a mono microphone.

The system appears intended for film, stage, and ensemble recording with moving sources or for use as a controllable stereo setup when paired with a second mic. Build quality is excellent, and the sound is detailed, dimensional, and lifelike.

The headbasket is very difficult to remove, so capsule photos are shown for only one of the two mics. The internal PSU/remote photos are also only of one of the units, but both are identical internally. Both mics and their respective PSUs have been tested extensively and are guaranteed to be working and sounding exactly as they should.

This CKBK 19A33 includes its original 220 V PSU and controller, original cables, and the rare factory CKBK shockmount clip. A step-up transformer is required for 120 V operation. We can recommend a reliable, affordable option.

These are vintage microphones, typically between 30 and 80 years old. Although serviced and tested for full functionality, all vintage equipment will eventually require maintenance.
