LOMO 19a9 / LENKINAP KMD (1959, n167) - Soviet Tube Microphone

This fully original Lenkinap KMD/19A9 (1959) large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone factory set is the rarest earliest known example of the 19A9 design, built by KINAP before LOMO’s formation - another quite like it may not exist. It remains complete, fully functional, and came from the USSR's own special collection, and is one of the same extremely rare versions used at the Kremlin for Yuri Gagarin’s 1961 post-flight press conference, after becoming the first human in space.

This is an extremely unique and historically significant Lenkinap KMD/19A9 large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone from 1959, presumed to be the first year of production. Manufactured in-house by KINAP, the Department for Cinema Equipment, this early model was built with exceptional precision and craftsmanship. It predates the LOMO factory and represents the earliest known evolution of the classic 19A9 design.

This example is complete and entirely original, including:
• 1959 Lenkinap KMD/19A9 microphone with matte black finish and distinctive 7-bar perforated grille
• 100% original capsule and diaphragm
• Original unregulated 1959 KINAP 20B35 power supply (with an additional switch, likely for impedance selection)
• Original rare shock-absorbing stand adapter
• Original proprietary connector and locking stand mount with ring nut
• Original suitcase and all accessories

The microphone is fully functional and demonstrates the rich, natural tone and distinct tube character that define the KMD/19A9 lineage. Its unique body design, connector, and mount are unlike any other version we’ve encountered in over two decades of study and restoration.

The original 1959 KINAP 20B35 power supply operates on 220 V and will require a step-up transformer for use in countries with 120 V mains power. Quality step-up transformers are available online for under $50, and we can recommend a reliable model.

These are vintage microphones, typically between 30 and 80 years old. Although serviced and tested for full functionality, all vintage equipment will eventually require maintenance.
