This is a 1990 Greco SS-600 or SS-65 SG Standard model from Greco's Mint Collection series, which is clone of the 1963 Gibson SG Standard. Greco renamed the model in 1990, so in 2 catalogs it appears as SS-600 and in the third catalog it appears as the SS-65 model. There's no marking inside the guitar (that I can see) and no model sticker, so I can't say for certain which one it is - but they are the same model just different names.

This guitar was made in the famous Fujigen factory in Japan, as evidence by the serial number, cavity and pickup routings, neck heel shape, pickguard shape, bevels... Greco guitars are nearly synonymous with Fujigen - nearly all of Greco's guitars, especially in the 80's and early 90's were made by Fujigen. However, at the very end of the 1980's and 1990, Greco had Tokai make some of their instruments - including some of the SG's.

I'm a big SG Standard fan, and I've had a few different MIJ SG's from different brands (Greco, Tokai, Edwards, Burny, Aria, Epiphone, Orville, Bacchus, etc...), and I'd say without question, from what I've seen, Fujigen did ana amazing job with all of the details of their SG models, including the bevels and the carve - they're done very well. The bevels and shaping on this guitar and hardware are closer to a Gibson custom shop, rather than a Gibson USA standard.

This one appears to be made with a 3 piece mahogany body mated to a 1 piece mahogany neck, with long tenon, and is made from beautiful selections of mahogany.

The original SCREAMIN pickups are aptly named - they can scream! They are typically lower wind pickups, similar to a PAF, although these are the hottest ones I have owned so far measuring in at 7.85K and 8.07K ohm, and built with thin ceramic magnet giving it a lot more power. They are very clear and articulate, but can handle fast playing really well. The mids and highs are very present, and the low end is very focused. They can clean up well when you roll down the volume, but can easily shred as well. There is a reason why these pickups have a following, and these have become some of my favorite pickups.

Note: These pickups have pretty short lead wires on them, so removing them to take pics is difficult.

This guitar arrived to me in overall good shape, but the knobs were missing, so I replaced them with a new set of metric knobs from Japan (same as the originals).

Other than the knobs, everything else on this guitar appears to be original, and the guitar is in good player's grade condition, although it does have a lot of dings, dents, scratches, and chips in the finish all over the guitar - but nothing structural.

The neck on this one is chunkier than most SG's I have had - it starts out relatively thin at 21.4mm at the 1st fret, but gets to about 24.5mm at the 12th fret. It has a "C" shape carve - and it's a slightly wider neck than most, making it a joy to play on if you like big & wide necks. The fretboard is medium brown rosewood with a a beautiful grain all the way up the fretboard, with celluloid type trapezoid inlays.

The 22 medium jumbo frets that have been played with only minor fret wear, and overall there is still have lots of life left in them and the guitar plays well up and down the entire neck.

Like all the guitars I sell, I test, thoroughly clean, and setup my guitars completely before I list them. Anything that is missing, damaged, or non original is mentioned in the listing.

I setup all my Gibson style guitars to Gibson factory specs - including neck relief, action, pickup height, intonation, and tailpiece height. So this guitar will be ready to play out of the box (after you tune it up - I ship my guitars with the strings loosened).

Comes with a new quality made Profile G05TX gig bag.

Overall, this is a great player grade guitar, that looks, plays and sounds great.

If you're looking for a vintage Japanese SG these early Mint Collection Greco SG's are hard to beat - add this one to your collection today!

CONDITION ------------

Overall it's in good player grade shape.

I've tried to capture all of the flaws in the photos and in the description.

The knobs are all new.

Over the entire body of the guitar, top, back, sides, neck and headstock, there are many dings, dents, scratches, chips, hazing, and swirling.

Around the input jack, there is a small crack in the top coat - but the jack itself is solid.

The nickel hardware, bridge, tailpiece, tuners, and screws all have some very slight form of corrosion, pitting, scratches, and rust, although not too much for the age, and they do have a consistent patina on them.

All of the black plastics have many scratches and swirling on them.

All of the non branded Kluson style tuners work properly.

Around the strap buttons there's some strap marks/swirling.

The 22 medium jumbo frets have been played, but not much, so there is only minor fret wear across the board, and overall there is lots of life left in the frets, and the guitar plays well up and down the entire neck.

The truss rod works as expected, with room in both directions.
