The Warm Audio WA-87jr Black is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone that delivers the legendary sound of vintage ’87-style microphones in an affordable and versatile package. Built with a K87-style capsule, transformerless circuitry, and multi-pattern functionality, this microphone provides professional-quality recordings for vocals, instruments, and studio applications. With its highpass filter, -10dB pad, and wide frequency response, the WA-87jr adapts to nearly any recording situation with precision and clarity.

Classic Sound Modeled After Legendary Studio Microphones
For decades, ’87-style microphones have been a go-to choice for engineers in top studios. Known for their warmth and character, they appear on countless classic recordings across genres. The WA-87jr Black captures this same timeless tone with a dual-backplate, gold-sputtered K87-style capsule, giving engineers and performers access to the sonic qualities that shaped the sound of the 1970s and beyond. Designed after the iconic WA-87 R2, this microphone brings vintage-inspired sound to modern workflows.

Multi-Pattern Flexibility For Recording Options
The WA-87jr offers three switchable polar patterns: cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-8. This versatility makes it a powerful tool for a wide range of applications. Cardioid provides focused capture for vocals and instruments, omni is ideal for natural room sound and ensemble recording, and figure-8 excels at face-to-face duets or backline miking with strong side rejection. With multiple microphones, engineers can use advanced stereo techniques such as XY, Blumlein, ORTF, and mid-side recording for immersive results.

Built-In Tools For Professional Studio Control
This microphone is equipped with both a -10dB pad and a 70Hz highpass filter, giving users more control over their recordings. The pad allows the WA-87jr to handle louder sources such as guitar cabinets, brass, or kick drums without distortion, while the highpass filter reduces low-end rumble and muddiness. These features make the WA-87jr a versatile choice for everything from delicate acoustic instruments to powerful drums and amplifiers.

Transformerless Circuitry For Clean And Transparent Sound
The WA-87jr’s transformerless circuit design ensures a low-noise, discrete signal path that delivers clean and consistent results. With a wide 20Hz–20kHz frequency range and 116dBA dynamic range, it captures the full detail of performances while maintaining professional-quality clarity. Handling up to 125dB SPL (135dB with the pad engaged), it adapts seamlessly to both subtle and high-volume sources.

Versatile Applications For Vocals And Instruments
Whether tracking lead vocals in rock, pop, or R&B, recording acoustic instruments such as strings and woodwinds, or capturing drum overheads and guitar cabs, the WA-87jr delivers consistently strong results. It is equally valuable for adding room ambience to recordings or capturing natural stereo soundscapes with multiple units. Its adaptability makes it a must-have tool for both professional studios and serious home recordists.

Professional Build Quality With Included Accessories
The WA-87jr Black is built to withstand professional studio use while maintaining reliable performance. It comes with a shockmount, hard-mount, and a protective leather pouch, ensuring both secure setup and safe storage. Its sleek black finish gives it a polished appearance, reflecting the professional quality of the sound it delivers.
