Hamer FB Basses, their version of a Thunderbird Bass, are rare basses. Estimates are that Hamer made less than 100 over its 40-years of production and nearly half of those were likely owned by Nikki Sixx of Motley Crüe.
This one is a VERY, VERY special one.
It was one of the FINAL HALF DOZEN guitars and basses ever made by Hamer before the brand was acquired by Fender Musical Instruments and, sadly, closed by short-sighted corporate hacks. It is also the ONLY Hamer Bass ever made with the special "tumbling boomerang" inlays that were previously done as a custom spec for guiarist Vernon Reid of Living Colour. This Candy Apple Red FB8 took nearly two years and some pull from the Nikki Sixx camp to get done. Hamer previously had built a Black Cherry Metalflake FB8 some 25 years earlier for Tom Patersson, that he used in a Cheap Trick music video and live with both CT and while filling in on bass with Concrete Blonde for some '90s TV performances and other live shows.
The bass has an ebony fingerboard and the original Hamer OHSC. This is a fantastic, collectible and historic Hamer Bass. It is mint and as it left the factory, with the exception of a moved neck strap button as is typical on most Thunderbird basses.
ONLY the Candy Apple Red FB8 Bass is included in this sale. There are several photos showing it with other Hamer Bass for comparison. Please note that Hamer FB Basses have better upper fret assess than most other TBirds due to the neck/fingerboard extending out a couple frets more than most other brands. To balance the bass better, Hamer used a thicker body without as many scallops as a typical Gibson TBird body. If you look at the one photo, you will notice that the Hamer FB Basses....even the 8-string....easily balance upright on the body edge without falling over tpward the headstocks! So they have significantly less neck dive than other TBirds.
A RARE chance to grab an amazingly rare, historic TBird that was one of the very last Hamer guitar or basses ever built!!
