1950s Peacock Sparkle Gretsch Round Badge Progressive Jazz set RARE vintage 20/12/14

Up for sale is this ultra rare and original Gretsch Round Badge Progressive Jazz set in the coveted Peacock sparkle wrap.

This set is a mix of 3- and 6-ply drums, which was very common in the mid 50’s when Gretsch was switching from their in-house built 3-ply shells to the Jasper built 6-ply shells.

This set is in great condition and has all original parts, superb bearing edges, beautiful polished chrome, tight wrap seams and typical fade of the peacock sparkle wrap. I have owned multiple Peacock sparkle drums and all of them were faded. However, this set has plenty of red, pink, gold and silver left! The green and purple sparkles have faded to silver.

Here’s a description of each drum:

20x14” bass drum

• 3-ply

• perfect edges

• NO hairline cracks in the inner ply, which is something you see very often with 3-ply shells

• 2 small extra holes on top. drilled once upon a time for a different position of the rail consolette mount. This was a very common mod back in the day.

These holes have been professionally plugged

• original inlays on the hoops. Hoops seem to be repainted. no cracks or scuffs. Very clean!

14x14” floor tom

• 6-ply

• original early, thin style, die-cast hoops

• this floor tom came to me with modern Gretsch reproduction leg brackets, which I have replaced with era-correct bolt through diamond brackets that have the same hole spacing. However, it looks like this drum originally had the Gladstone post style brackets, but these holes had already been plugged. The leg brackets cover up the filled holes except one. Not visible unless you really look for it.

12x8” tom

• 3-ply

• original cob stick chopper hoops

• some scuffs and scratches but no further issues
