This is a rare opportunity to own a meticulously refurbished Ampex MR-70 1/2" 2-track tape machine. Operating at 15/30 IPS, with modifications to enable recording with modern 1/2" tape formulas, including RTM SM900, SM911, and ATR Master Tape.  This MR70 has undergone extensive servicing, modifications, and upgrades to ensure long-term reliability and peak performance.

Transport Rebuild Highlights:

• Complete rebuild by MDI/Precision Motor Works, including all four motors.
• Fully recapped with new relays where necessary.
• Operates at 15/30 IPS with an installed capstan sleeve; capable of running 7.5/15 IPS with additional modifications.
• Newly painted reel tables.
• Powder-coated transport control box screen and trim panel (a rare and often missing component).
• Rebuilt viscous damper and pinch roller.
• All-new transport bulbs installed.

Electronics Modifications & Enhancements:

• Rebuilt electronics by Purple Audio.
• Custom erase modifications for fully erasing and biasing modern 1/2" tape.
• Includes custom erase/bias modules and power supply (required for recording functions).
• Fully recapped electronics using discrete JJ Electrolytics for the power supply and high-quality film capacitors for the signal path.
• New and matched Nuvistors for optimal performance.
• LED indicators for Safe/Ready mode, replacing traditional bulbs.- Balanced input transformers for superior audio quality.- Sel-Sync amplifiers installed for precise playback and synchronization.

• Rebuilt console with a custom low-profile 2-track overbridge
• Includes a copy of the manual and detailed maintenance documentation

Condition:

This Ampex MR-70 is in excellent cosmetic and operational condition. Serial/asset numbers are lightly engraved on each channel, located on the lower left of the faceplate beneath the meters. Not visible from a couple of feet away.
