This gorgeous instrument is a truly one-of-a-kind Tyler six string bass.

It was originally owned and built by the late master luthier and Tyler Guitars employee Paul Slagle (also the maker of Pearlman guitars) in conjunction with Jim Tyler. The finish was done by Paul Slagle.

The piece was made roughly 2006/2007-ish and basically never left his home. Unfortunately, Mr Slagle passed away and I purchased the bass from the folks helping sell off his collection. I bought it with the intention to play it on a project but could never justify taking it to my usual gigs, so what we have here is basically a custom Tyler that is brand new. Even the plastic is still on the control cavity cover.

.For those of you who don't know a lot about Tyler basses, they are as rare as hens teeth, have a unique character to their sound that is huge, aggressive, articulate, and sweet all at the same time. There are a few that float around for sale every once in a great while, but players tend to keep them as they are very special.

The Specs:

The body has a Wenge core with Alder body wings, a four way bookmatched Austrailian Lacewood top and back, and is chambered. The neck is a nice piece of lightly figured Maple with a Pau ferro fretboard and position markers on the side of the fingerboard only that are made of abalone, as well as an Ivory nut, legally obtained before the ban in the United States.

String length is 35 inches, nut width is 2.14"/54.55mm, it has a custom-made Hipshot bridge which allows the bass to be strung with the ball ends of the strings anchored in the bridge, or strung through the body, and the string spacing at the bridge is 17.25mm. The instrument is also equipped with Hipshot tuners, with a drop tuner on the B string, and Hipshot knobs.

The pickups were custom made by Seymour Duncan's Kevin Beller, the company’s VP of Engineering and a lifelong bass player. Mr. Beller also made the active 18 volt preamp which features a master volume, blend control, bass, mid, treble (+/- 25db), a midrange frequency select switch, and a push/pull switch on the volume pot that activates a secondary EQ circuit in the preamp (inside the control cavity) that is currently adjusted for slap style playing.

The instrument will ship in a very heavy touring case that is built like a tank (pics to follow) shipping will be expensive, but I will incur those costs. I may ship overseas for the right buyer but reserve the right to add a $200.00 surcharge. Full payment in U.S Dollars only, please, unless you have an extra Fodera or Ken Smith lying around (j/k, lol).

Please check my seller feedback. I endeavor to provide a satisfactory experience for my buyers. Conversely, I think it's only fair to expect buyers to be serious as well. I will gladly answer all questions but reserve the right to cancel orders placed by buyers with no verifiable history on reverb or excessive negative feedback. Thank you for looking.
