We're big fans of Gibson's smaller offerings when it comes to acoustics, not just their signature dreadnoughts and jumbos. Like the more common LG-2's and B-25's, this rare first year CF-100 has a full Gibson 24-3/4" scale, x-braced solid spruce top, mahogany back, sides, and neck, rosewood fingerboard and comfy 14-1/8" lower bout. The smaller size makes them a great guitar to have at your side no matter where you are, and one that records great too, taking out some of the boomy-ness you can sometimes run into with a dreadnought. Unlike those previously mentioned models, the CF-100 has some choice appointments that really make it stand out. It is visually striking with its pointed florentine cutaway and trapezoid fingerboard inlays, and instead of a decal it has an inlaid perloid logo and crown. It is in nice shape with no breaks or cracks. At some point a new bridge was put on and we re-glued a loose brace when it first came in but it now has a clean bill of health. Overall it is very clean but does have some random nicks along with the expected weather checking lines along with some marks on the top from some over-ambitious strumming. Still the nicest of these we've ever seen. Gibson may have been known for making some very large necks at this time but this one is very manageable and has a medium feel to it. It is 1-9/16" wide at the nut. The action is at a medium height but it is still very playable and the frets are in great shape. This is definitely some good old wood and the whole guitar clocks in at a super light 3.8 lbs.
