The Big River “Moses” Tele
6lbs. 12oz.
**Natural finish month/s are almost over, we have a couple more builds on the way though so check back! Thanks for checking us out!**
Up for sale is a brand new Big River “Moses“ Tele! This “Moses” Tele started with a custom cut two piece Catalpa body. If you’re not familiar, Catalpa is similar to Ash but is lighter in weight with a crazier grain structure, and this body was matched and cut for this particular finish. This body was sanded to 220 and hit with a light mixture of Naptha and water several times to pop the grain up. We then applied our bourbon stain, allowed it to sit over night, then applied several coats of sealer. Finally we hit it with several coats of clear nitro, giving it a beautifully smooth and somewhat textured finish.
Our Telecaster neck is made from roasted maple with a rosewood fingerboard. The specs on our necks are as follows…a 9.5” radius, 22 medium jumbo nickel frets with rounded and hidden frets end (that are flat out awesome), a medium C shape (a little more substantial than Fender’s Slim C) and a bone nut. We finish the neck with several coats of thin lacquer, then they are buffed to a super smooth satin finish. The tuners are a set of Hipshot staggered locking tuner and the steel string tree is from Callaham. All of necks receive a fret level, crown and polish!
I wanted to do something different with the bridge, so I went with the chopped stainless steel hardtail bridge from Waterslide. The guys at Waterslide are incredible builders, you should check out their Coodercasters, just incredible craftsman over there! Anyway Its made from .074” stainless steel, and has compensated and notched brass bullet saddles for accurate intonation. This Waterslide bridge also gives you the option to have either a string through or top loading setup. Im a huge fan of top loading tele’s, they always feel extra slinky and super resonant when strung up that way, just a super cool design here!
Now the electronics! I built a vintage style harness with an Oak Switch, 500k CTS Pots, a .01 Cinnamon Drop Cap, John Suhr Treble Bleed, Puretone 4Prong Input Jack, and Gavitt Cloth Pushback Wire throughout.
And finally the pickups. For this Moses I installed a set of Bareknuckle Old Guard Medium Output P90’s. This set surprised me from the time I played their first note! Since they have been one of my favorite, and go to P90 for most applications! The Alnico 2’s are super articulate, clean and crisp when you want, but can roll up their sleeves and pissed if you want the too. Super balanced and dynamic, that help turn this resonant light weight tele into a tone machine! The neck clocks in at 6.4k with the bridge at 7.4.

After I built the P90 Tele with the Bigsby, I received several messages from folks wondering if I could build one without the Bigsby. This Tele is the perfect addition to our ”Natural Finish” month/s! With a timeless and killer custom mixed Bourbon Finish, to the vintage inspired electronics and pickups, this tele is the ultimate in feel and tone. It plays like a dream, feels like home, and sounds like an absolute animal! Grab it quick it won’t be around for long!
