The Big River Tele/Paul

7lbs. 2oz.

Up for sale is another brand new specialty build from Big River. The Tele/Paul is the wicked love child of a Telecaster and a Les Paul. This mashup gives you the very best parts from each of these Iconic Axes! The body was cut by our friend Scott over at Sand Hill Customs. He helped us out with a recent build, “The Tele Paul Revere” made from all most 300 year old reclaimed wood from the Globe Grain Elevevator! Make sure you check out Scott’s Store…

Anyway the body is made from two pieces of Silver Maple, it was prepped; pore filled, sealed and given ten coats of our custom mixed Aged Pelham Blue Nitro all over several coats of that classic Gibson color, TV Yellow. It was then left to hang and do its thing. When ready, it was wet sanded, aged, buffed, aged some more and given some incredible checking throughout!

Our Telecaster neck is made from roasted maple with a rosewood fingerboard. The specs on our necks are as follows…a 9.5” radius, 22 medium jumbo nickel frets with rounded and hidden frets end (that are flat out awesome), a medium C shape (a little more substantial than Fender’s Slim C) and a bone nut. We finish the neck with several coats of thin lacquer, then they are buffed to a super smooth satin finish. The tuners are a set of Hipshot staggered locking tuner and the steel string tree is from Callaham. All of necks receive a fret level, crown and polish!

To add to the stability and aid in that tele twang, i went with a Gotoh ”In Tune” Ashtray Bridge, with compensated brass saddles for dead on accurate intonation. This bridge along with every piece of hardware used, was aged here by us in our shop!

The wiring harness is a traditional vintage style tele harness. I used an Oak 3way switch, 250k CTS pots, a .047 Mullard Tropical Fish Cap (I love these caps!) a John Suhr Treble Bleed, a Puretone 4prong input jack for added stability so you don’t accidentally pull your cable out, and Gavitt cloth pushback wire throughout.

For pick ups I went with a Lollar soapbar P90 in the neck and a Lollar Special T in the bride. These two pickups sound absolutely incredible when paired together! Here’s what they had to say about them….

“Lollar P-90s have a warm, full tone with the clarity and articulation associated with larger single-coils from the late ‘50s. You’ll get a balanced output between the neck and bridge positions along with an expressive dynamic range.”

“Our Special T is Inspired by the early 1950s Fender Broadcaster pickups, the Lollar Special T Series® is our most popular Tele® pickup—and for good reason! Punchy and powerful, it offers focused midrange with a small bump in compression and a smooth top end. A versatile pickup suitable for a wide variety of playing styles, the Special T is a great fit for players who find most Tele pickups to be too bright, or those looking for a slightly hotter and darker tone while still evoking the best of the Fullerton-era Fender sound.”

Anyway this Tele/Paul is one killer instrument! From the beautifully aged two tone nitro finish, with the classic Aged Pelham Blue over TV Yellow you will for sure see people turning heads! But once you plug in this versatile beast of tone, those same faces are going to start to melt! Pick up this killer looking guitar fast, it wont be around for long!
