The sunburst finish on this mandolin is the best I've seen. I've had all kinds of expensive Gibsons and the like in my hands but for my taste, this is the one I'd want to copy. Go figure!
The photos depict the condition. No cracks but a bit of lacker checking on the back. The woods are solid spruce top over solid figured maple for the body but I'm not certain of the wood used for the neck. It could be birch or maple but not poplar.
The original tuners were a bit stiff so these are replacements but I will include the original closed back Klusons in the sale. After I reset the neck angle the original adjustable bridge did not have enough upward travel so I replaced that too with a new similar one. The tailpiece and nut are original.
Someone had refastened the neck heel with a big wood screw at some point so, as you see in one of the photos, I plugged that hole with a hardwood dowel while doing the neck reset. It's visible but solid. A strap button would hide that adequately.
The neck is straight with just a touch of relief and low action at around 1/16" at the 12th fret so it plays nicely. The frets are good and smooth with no buzzing. If you like a higher action there is plenty of adjustment at the bridge.
I like the sound of this mandolin. It has a nice ring to it. The video is for demonstration only and is NOT the mandolin I have on here for sale.
I don't have a case so it will be shipped in a styrofoam enclosure.
Ships for free in North America. Elsewhere I will need a postal code to figure the cost difference between free and the extra mileage.
