Last Chance to Get Made In Japan Sakae Drums - Do Not Hesitate - This is The Last Of Them Web Only Special!

It goes without saying that the Sakae Rhythm factory in Osaka, Japan has built some of the most recorded drums in history. The quality was legendary, and the sounds... well, if you're reading this, then you know. Sakae was the OEM manufacturer for Yamaha's professional line of drums for decades. In 2008 when the economy turned, Sakae launched their own brand of drums while still manufacturing for Yamaha. When that partnership ended, Sakae focused on promoting their own lines of drums. They were moderately successful here in the United States, but the debt involved in launching a brand became too great and the factory shuttered it's doors for good in 2018, leaving all that talent, all that knowledge, all those drums that would never be built in dark corner of an abandoned factory.

It's a shame.

KORG, the USA distributor for Sakae has purchased the Sakae name and is exploring the possibilites of making Sakae drums at a factory in Taiwan. Meanwhile, the approached DCP with the last of the Made in Japan Sakae gear, and we have taken all of it, and the discounts are CRAZY!

This is a great opportunity to get some incredibly well crafted gear for PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR.  But, please be aware, what you see is what we have.   If it is not listed on the site, then we do not have it, and we cannot order it either.

The Celestial kit features Sakae's new Chamber Specific Technology (CST). CST is another innovation in the 88-year history of Sakae and is a result of decades of collaborations with some of world's top drumming artists. Eizo Nakata, Sakae's 3rd generation President states, "Sakae believes that in the search for the ultimate resonance and tone, individual drums within a drum kit should not be limited to a certain ply configuration, bearing edge or even shell composition."

North American Maple and exotic African Bubinga wood are used for this hybrid drum. 2-plies of African Bubinga wood, known for its great resonance and projection, are used on the outside of the shell. By having the hardwood at the bearing edge, where the head contacts the drum, the most profound properties of the Bubinga wood are expressed. Keeping this consistent tone and level of resonance from the hardwood allows Sakae to adjust the low-end, sustain and projection for the each of the various drum sizes. This is the secret of Chamber Specific Technology.

Building on that philosophy, this ground-breaking instrument focuses on each drum and the specific treatment needed to produce the most desired sound for that size shell. With the CST process, Sakae has successfully "Pre-Eq'd" each drum so that each speaks with its ultimate musical tone.

Shell Thickness:

In the art of shell making, the thickness of a shell greatly affects the sound. On smaller diameter drums, thinner shells enhance projection, resonance and tone. For larger diameter drums, the opposite holds true - a thicker shell adds a desired bottom end with a larger "sweet spot" playing area. Within the Celestial series, small drums feature thinner shells. The shell thickness gradually increases as shell diameter increases.

Shell Plies:

An important factor in creating a musical shell is knowing how various woods work together to create a preferred sound. Harder woods add resonance and projection to the shell while also bringing more "high-mid" frequencies. This helps smaller drums cut-through the music and gives lower drums thunderous power. The Celestial kit features a Hybrid shell consisting of North American Maple and exotic African Bubinga.

Shell Bearing Edges:

The combination of sharper edges for smaller drums and rounder edges for larger drums is an important part of CST technology. A sharper edge allows for more of the harder Bubinga wood to make contact with the head. As the drum's diameter increases, the rounding of the bearing edges help to control excessive overtones and sustain.

Shell Wood Type:

The Celestial series uses 2 plies of African Bubinga on the outside of the shell combined with North American Maple on the inside. By having the harder Bubinga wood at the bearing edge, where the head contacts the drum, you get the most profound properties.
