Originally a limited run produced for the Chicago World’s Fair of the 1930s, the L-C Century of Progress was a take off of the smaller bodied L-00 guitars already in regular production. These guitars featured the “revolutionary” material pearloid which has since been lovingly referred to Mother-of-Toiletseat, for its synthetic approach to Mother of Pearl. What is undeniable is that this material gives a unique feel and sound to an already great sounding instruments. The bracing of the 1930s small bodies were exceptionally thin allowing for a super responsive top and balanced, punchy sound. The beautifully figured maple back and sides, also invites an atypical tonal quality in combination with the Adirondack Spruce top, and the classic Gibson sunburst on this guitar is extraordinary. This guitar has had a spot repair on the top, a few cracks cleated and glued professionally, and the bridge and plate are replacements. None of this affects the sound quality and the playability is amazing. W/HSC
