About This Listing

“You must know, my own love, that in each element there exists a race of beings, whose form scarcely differs from yours, but who very seldom appear to mortal sight … you now see before you, my love, an undine.”

We are proud to be carrying Dismal Ax!

Dismal Ax guitars are built right here in the hills of Tennessee, by the wonderfully talented Gwen Forrester. Gwen is not only an incredibly talented luthier, but just an all around interesting person -- be sure to check out her blog or follow her on Instagram!

I have been following Gwen's work for a while; so I was thrilled when she contacted me about carrying her guitars in the store. I have always appreciate the way she reclaimed local wood and metal scrap to make her guitars. The body and neck are all local TN grown or reclaimed woods. The hardware and control plates are all custom crafted from upcycled materials. It gives her guitars a truly one-of-a-kind "objective of a side quest in a video game" quality.

Here is some specs from Gwen:

Butternut body with green milk paint finish
Cherry neck with persimmon fretboard
Salvaged textured aluminum sheet pickguard
Homespun single coil pickups, 6.8k/5.7k dcr
Weights 6.5 pounds.
"

Oh yeah, did I mention it sounds great too? The homespun pickups are really full / fat for singles. Something between a single and P-90. Really unique and vintage-esque tone that reminds me of the old Teisco toaster pups and other dimestore selections. The neck and fret work are also immaculate, so the neck feels great in your hands.

Got questions? Shoot me a message, I love nerding out with other gearheads!
