Steve Smith’s 1997 Sonor Designer Journey, Vital Information, Buddy’s Buddies, $11,995.00

Steve Smith’s 1997 Sonor Designer Journey, Vital Information, Buddy’s Buddies

This Sonor Designer Series drum set was owned and used  by Steve Smith between 1997 and 2008.  Smith originally acquired the set in preparation for an ill fated 1997 Journey tour that was canceled before it ever got started. He did use this set to record the video of Journey’s “When You Love A Woman” for their Trial By Fire album.  Steve referred to this set as his “East Coast Kit” as he kept it in New York and used it for gigs on the eastern half of the country. This set was used on a wide variety of Steve’s projects including Vital Information, The Buddy Rich Big Band and Buddy’s Buddies. The set is on the cover of Modern Drummer Magazine April ’97 issue and can be seen extensively in the feature story photos. The set can also be seen on several DVDs including Modern Drummer Festival Weekend 2003, A Salute to Buddy Rich featuring  Phil Collins, Dennis Chambers and Steve Smith and Journey’s Greatest Hits DVD 1978-1997.

Steve Smith used these drums extensively for over 10 years and cared for them meticulously. They are in excellent+++ condition. The white marks in some of the photos are simply reflections on the extremely shiny shells. The only flaw in any of the wood is the small chip on one of the bass hoops shown in the photo. The photos depict the condition of the set very accurately. There is some extremely minor scratching on some of the hardware. Shells and edges are excellent. There are no modifications, damage, broken or missing parts.

Both of the bass drum logo heads are signed in silver Sharpie pen by Steve Smith. The signatures were acquired after the drum set photos were taken.

The set includes the following. Sonor Designer Series, 8×8,9×10,10×12,11×13,16×14,16×16, two 22×16. Finish is darker green than it appears in the photos due to lighting. The darker green close up photos are a more accurate depiction of the shade of the finish. Snare in photos is not included. All Sonor hardware shown in the first photo is included. The second photo (brick background) is of the set in action. Extras in this photo are not included. This photo is for color and use verification. Includes a complete set of Enduro hardshell drum cases. Bass pedal and cymbals are not included. Magazine and DVDs included with the set. COA signed by Steve Smith. See the set in action in the video below.
