Before the introduction of the DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion humbucker in the early 1970s, there were simply no replacement pickups available to buy. The Super Distortion (and the original 3-wire version, the Dual Sound) was the first pickup specifically designed to deliberately overdrive valve amplifiers.
As the first high-gain pickup in history, it sounds fat, with emphasised mids, and loud, with powerful bass. A sound familiar from countless recordings. Played by guitarists such as Ace Frehley, Al Di Meola and Paul Gilbert. A high-gain classic with plenty of punch, mid-range and presence.
