About This Listing

Ludwig - Early 1970s 3-Ply Natural Maple Thermogloss "Pro-Beat" 24", 18", 16", 14", 13" with a Bonus 26x14

Here's one you don't see everyday!! Early 1970s Ludwig, Natural Maple Thermogloss, 5 piece set with 24x14" bass drum, 18x16", 16x16" floor toms, 14x10" and 13x9" rack toms. 3 ply Thermogloss drums are extremely rare. This is a rare beauty. This set was originally a "born together" 24, 13, 14, 18 kit with all serial #s between 938*** and 942***. The 16" floor tom was added later. The finish on the 16" has aged to a darker shade of natural then the other drums.

The set also includes an additional matching 3-ply 26x14" bass drum. This drum was constructed from an LA Camco shell in Natural maple finish, fitted with Ludwig hardware. One additional hole for each lug was needed to mount the Ludwig lugs. The extra hole is not visible from the outside of the drum but a small amount of the filler can be seen on the inside of the drum. The drum has no badge and a filled hole where the original Camco badge was. This could be covered with a replacement Ludwig badge. See pics.

New Remo coated Emperors on top. Coated Ambassadors on bottom. Coated Powerstroke 3 with 70s Ludwig logo head on the bass. This drum kit sounds HUGE. Wide open, this kit resonates with the kind of ambience that room mics love.

The 18" arrived with a large water stain. I had the drum professionally buffed and refinished to dramatically reduce the darkness of the stain. You can still see the stain but it's not a distraction.

The bass drum spurs for the 26 bass, floor tom legs, and rack tom mount are not included.
