If anyone has any information on this little foil sticker please let me know. I honestly do not know what I have here. I really don't want to part with the amp. The price, I know it's ridiculous high but I don't know what I have. If it is Clarences amp, what would a fair price be? I don't know. I'm using this price as reference, I don't know what price it should be.
I picked up this Blackface Fender Vibrolux Amp about 8-9 years ago. I took it in on a trade from a Doctor at a Florida Guitar Show. In our conversation he mentioned that he knew Clarence White and some of the other members from the Byrds as well as other famous musicians. I didn't think nothing of it at the time. I took the amp home used it in my band off and on for a year or two. I then took the amp to my friend that services my amps and we discovered a little foil sticker on the back of the chassis. It reads "Clarence White BYRDS" and the "D" on BYRDS is backwards. My friend finished servicing the, new tubes, caps... Anyhow, I then tried to do some research and document this amp to belong to Clarence. I contacted Roger McGuinn's office but he wouldn't return any calls or emails. I did however contact Gene Parsons who was the drummer for the Byrds. He did write me back. I told him about the sticker on the back of the amp. He said that the sticker could have been from Clarence's Amp Tech. and possibly a Amp that Clarence kept at home. Below is a copy of the message he wrote back to me.
I recently put a pair of Celestion Gold Alnico Speakers in the amp. They didn’t have the original speakers in it anyhow. The Golds bring any amp to life and sound totally awesome in this amp. I will add pictures soon.
I really don’t know what is a fair price for this amp. Why would it have a foiled sticker like this? Meanwhile the amp sits in my back bedroom. I plug it in every once in a while. I’m lowering the price again. 11/16/2019.
"Hi Donny,
Clarence had quite a few amps. I would have expected that if this were actually one of his it would have had either his name or "BYRDS" stenciled in white paint on the case.
This could have been an amp he kept at home, ( that never went to the studio or on the road), and it had the silver name sticker from the repair shop.
Don't know! It could be or . . . . . .not. Wish I could be more help.
Best,
Gene Parsons"
I am listing this amp at a price that I feel is fair for the amp not having documentation. If it had a COA and other documentation the amp would sky rocket in value. I am open to reasonable offers. (9-16-18I just lowered the price a little.)
This is a great sounding amp, everything works as it should. The speakers are later Fender Alnico Speakers. I will get more info and add it to my description.
I will be adding more pictures of the amp.
I will only ship to the lower 48 States. I am putting $300 shipping as a reference, that is subject to change. I will ship and insure how ever the buyer decides they would like to. The amp will be sold "AS-IS".
