About This Listing

Elvin Jones’ 1987 TAMA Crestar Drum Set. $14,9974. 00, AUTHENTICATED!!

Part of a large collection of Elvin’s drums acquired directly from Elvin Jones’s estate.

Ultra rare TAMA Crestar drums in spectacular gold lacquer finish. This set is one of two identical Crestar sets used by Elvin on live performances and recordings from the 1987 through the early 1990s. 18×14,12×8,13×9,16×16,18×16 wood shells.

The drums are all in excellent shape. Includes original “ELVIN JONES JAZZ MACHINE” logo bass head. There is notable snare rash/chipping on the player’s side of the mounted toms. The original floor toms on this set were lost many years ago. After I acquired the remaining pieces of the set, I located 16″ and 18″ Tama Crestar shells and had them refinished for an exact match by Chris Heuer of Heuer’s Drum Lab in Hollywood, CA. Both floor toms were completed with Elvin’s actual stage played heads that match the rest of the heads on the set. Currently there is no Crestar badge on the 16″ floor tom. I’ve located an exact match and it is en-route.

At some point in this set’s history, the original batter side bass drum hoop was cracked and replaced with the existing black hoop seen in the photos. The original cracked gold hoop is included. No other damage or modifications. Also included are a complete set of Elvin’s stenciled cases. In addition a pair of Elvin’s stage used Tama signature sticks, brushes and a copy of the May ’92 issue of Modern Drummer magazine that features this set on the cover are all included. A complete set of Elvin’s hardware and cymbals are available separately.

See the set in action in the videos below. Acquired directly from Elvin’s wife. COA signed by Keiko Jones. See and hear the set in the 2 videos below. More photos available soon.
