Born from a collaboration between David Brown and world-renowned guitarist/producer Adam Sniegowski, the Protein was designed to be the ultimate "Swiss Army Knife" of overdrive. Whether you are plugging into a boutique rig or an unpredictable backline amp, the Protein V4 delivers consistent, studio-quality drive tones that sit perfectly in any mix.

The Version 4 (V4) update retains the beloved Blue and Green circuits while introducing critical "player-requested" features, including an external 3-way Hi-Cut toggle for the Blue side and expanded internal clipping and EQ options for the Green side.

The Dual-Channel Architecture The Blue Side (Left): The "Continuum" Tone

Inspired by the legendary Bluesbreaker-style circuit heard on classic records like John Mayer’s Continuum, the Blue side provides a natural, open overdrive with exceptional touch sensitivity.

• V4 Refinements: Revoiced tone control and increased output section to ensure you never run out of volume on stage.

• 3-Way Hi-Cut Toggle: Now located externally, this switch (borrowed from the Carbon V2) allows you to instantly tame high-end harshness to match your specific amplifier’s voicing.

The Green Side (Right): The "Nashville" Secret

Based on the iconic "Nashville" overdrive (Nobels ODR-1 style) used by session legends like Tim Pierce and Jerry McPherson.

• Improved Sweep: The gain range has been lowered for a more usable sweep throughout the entire rotation of the knob.

• Tone Shaping: Rebalanced mids for a fuller presence and a tightened low-end that eliminates the "woofiness" often found in original ODR-1 circuits.

The Stacked "Third Channel"

The magic of the Protein lies in running the Green into the Blue. This creates a harmonically rich, high-gain third channel that adds massive "beef" and sustain without the mushiness or loss of note clarity common in other dual overdrives.

Version 4 (V4) Key Features & Upgrades

• External 3-Way Hi-Cut Switch: Fine-tune the top-end of the Blue circuit on the fly.

• Internal Green-Side Customization: Three new internal switches allow for deep-level tailoring:

  • Low Cut Toggle: Tightens the low-end further for high-volume clarity.

  • Heavy Clipping Mode: Adds more bite and aggressive breakup.

  • Asymmetrical Clipping: Introduces "raw" harmonic complexity and a more natural, tube-like edge.

• Split Mode Ready: Features an internal switch to split the two sides for use with professional loop switchers (like RJM Mastermind or Boss ES-5) via TRS cables.

• Form Factor: High-quality black finish with top-mounted jacks and soft-touch switching for easy pedalboard integration.
