About This Listing

Miguel Malo Classical Guitar 2005

This gorgeous guitar was constructed in the Spanish tradition by the famed luthier Miguel Malo, who made his name as one of the great builders to come out of the Ramirez shop in the 60s.

The back and sides are beautiful flamed maple and the top is cedar.  This unusual wood combination is both bright and earthy at the same time.  There are many lovely tone colors in the sound and the guitar works well for almost any style, Spanish classical, baroque, Venezuelan, Brazilian, jazz and flamenco.

The guitar is quite powerful, in a way less typical of a typical Spanish classical, as the sound is not dark and mysterious but bright and colorful while being capable of a very round sul tasto over the sound hole.

The guitar has been refretted by Alan Perlman and plays like butter, no issues with the 662 scale length being a challenge, the guitar has a quick attack and great sustain.   The action could easily be lower or higher depending on the player’s preference.  The nut width is 52 mm and the action height at the 12th fret is 3 mm at the low E string.

The back and sides are a beautiful yellowish tone and the top is a deep natural red cedar.

The condition is generally excellent with a few small lacquer dings on the top that are hard to capture in a photo.

The tuning machines and nut are the originals and there has not been any touch up to the lacquer finish. The frets have been replaced.

I can provide a brief video upon request.

A hard shell case is included and I can ship to the US and some locations in Europe, excluding Russia and parts of Eastern Europe and Asia with the exception of Japan.
