About This Listing

Up for sale is this vintage 1960's Kent 822 electric bass guitar. This is a very fun, player example of a rare model in a very rare finish. Search around, all of the others are sunburst!

This particular example is in fair cosmetic condition for its age. At some point it took a hit and that caused some damage in front of the neck pocket (pictured). This damage is purely cosmetic and does not affect anything structurally. The top of the neck pickup cover was also cracked as well (pictured). There are a few dings on the back of the neck that can can felt while playing, but only one that is sizable (pictured). The original natural finish shows the typical deep, long finish checking that these instruments are known for.

This bass is all original with the exception of the missing bridge cover, one pair of knobs, and the strap buttons.

Our tech gave this one a very quick once-over since he's backed up at the moment. He adjusted the truss rod, cleaned the instrument up a bit, and lowered the saddles a touch. It plays comfortably with low to low-medium action. As usual, the original fretwork on these Japanese instruments of this era wasn't top-notch so there are a few spots of fret buzz on the neck, but nothing major at all.

The electronics have just been tested and our tech noted that, while both pickups work and are strong, the three-way toggle switch can be a little troublesome at times, but a few wiggles and it makes contact. There also seems to be a grounding issue that leads to some hum when your hands aren't on the strings. Both are fairly simple fixes, but we have decided to discount this one a bit and let the new owner take care of it if they decide to.

A non-original, but period correct Burns Baldwin hardshell case is included. The bass fits loosely inside and will be well-packed to ensure safe shipping. The case shows heavy, heavy wear and part of the back has become detached. We have tried to capture these issues in the photos.

Overall, a very cool, player-grade example of a rare Japanese model in an even rarer finish that's priced to move because of a few small issues. Don't miss out, this one won't last!
