Vintage 1960's Kalamazoo (Gibson) KB-1 Electric Bass Guitar!

Up for sale is this vintage 1960's Kalamazoo KB-1 electric bass guitar. Built by Gibson to satisfy the need for lower-end, but quality instruments, these are really cool when they have held up. Generally, unfortunately, they haven't and we've parted out many of them over the years. That's what we expected to do with this one, but we did a quick set up and found it to be a good player!

This instrument is all original with the exception of the strap buttons, a few extra screw holes in the pickguard, and missing string cover. The original Gibson EB pickup sounds great, lots of low-end, and the controls all work as they should.

Cosmetically, the bass shows a lot of wear to the original finish which shows numerous dings, scuffs, scratches, and the like. The original hardware shows some wear and pitting, but is still in pretty nice shape. The original pickguards shrunk badly on these and this one is no different showing a decent crack by the pickup. It functions fine as it sits, but it will probably eventually need to be replaced down the road. There is a small crack at the tip of the headstock that is unrepaired, but purely cosmetic (pictured).

This one came in and required a turn of the truss rod and a bridge adjustment. The neck is straight and the bass plays well all the way up the neck with comfortable, low action. The fretwork on these is never the best and this one is no different, leading to some fretboard buzz in a few places on the fretboard if you're a heavy-handed player. Nothing frets out completely and there's plenty of room for the action to come up to meet your playing needs.

No case or gig bag is included, but the instrument will be well-packed to ensure safe shipping. Overall, if you're looking for perfection, this isn't it, but if you're looking for a nice playing vintage USA bass that's budget friendly and ready to rock, this one might be for you.
