The Contra from Gerald Marleaux is , in my opinion , an extraordinary bass.

I believe this bass' voice comes from the semi-acoustic body construction and the unique pickup placement.
The tone is big and rich in passive mode - passive allows you to hear the bass' inherent voice - active takes this great voice to another level.
