Olivia's Vintage would like to present this rare 1960's Ampeg SSB-1 short scale bass in its original Turquoise finish. The SSB-1 models were made for a very short period of time and the total production number was very low. The serial numbers began at #0100 making this #0111 the 11th one made provided the production numbers are reflective of the sequential serial numbers. There were a variety of features in the earliest models as Ampeg worked out consistent specs of the later examples in this series. The most unique features exclusive to this example is the factory brass bridge and the factory Turquoise finish. This exact SSB-1 is pictured on page 213 in the book titled AMPEG The Story Behind the Sound by Gregg Hopkins & Bill Moore. It has a great playing neck with good frets. It's all original with the exception of the pots. It's also 100% complete with the exception of one washer around the G tuning peg and one mute pad underneath the bridge cover. A later hardshell case is included. The thumb rest had been repositioned on the bass side of the pickguard at one time leaving two extra screw holes. There are nicks + dings, finish checking and other cosmetic wear. The bass itself remains structurally sound with no cracks, breaks or repairs. All electronics work and sound great, but the tone control is just a bit scratchy.
