About This Listing

HEATHKIT W-2 5881 Tube Amplifier - restored, matched 5881 tubes testing NOS, Peerless output transformer

ALL electrolytic and coupling capacitors in the amp have been replaced with good quality modern capacitors.  I placed the new electrolytic capacitors underneath the chassis in both the power supply and main amplifier chassis in order to maintain the original look of the amp.  All resistors were checked and were found to be within spec.  All voltages test on spec now, according to the table in the original W-2 assembly manual. It sounds great and is very quiet (i.e., no hum) at idle.  All tubes are supplied and test strong.

The 5881 tubes test like new at 5750 and 6000 umhos with 3300 umhos being the minimum transconductance for a good tube on my professionally-restored/updated/calibrated Hickok 539B tube tester.  A new tube should test at 5080 umhos or higher.

amp will be very well packed for safe shipping.  Tubes will be removed and secured internally in a separate box.  Amplifier chassis will be wrapped in bubble wrap, rigid foam and a heavy duty (double-walled) cardboard box.  Amp weighs 27 pounds before packing.
