This is a wonderful guitar from the Masaru Kohno workshop from 1992. Kohno is without question the most important maker in Japanese history, and arguably stands shoulder to shoulder alongside some of the other great makers in history as a key figure in classical guitar lutherie. The "Special" was one of the highest models made by Kohno at the time, along with the "Maestro" model. This guitar is signed by Kohno himself.
The sound and tone of the guitar is absolutely wonderful and very traditional - silky, shimmering trebles with punchy, dark basses. The balance is excellent, and the tone is phenomenal. It reminds me a bit of a Madrid style guitar, except much easier to play. If you are looking for a guitar that has a traditional, beautiful sound, this is it.
I have performed with this guitar in small to mid-sized halls and its projection has been great for those settings!
Condition is just great - no cracks or repairs, just some very mild play-wear in the top. The finish is clean all the way around on the top, back and sides, and it is a beautiful to guitar to look at as well as listen to. The neck also has some visible finish wear on it. The spruce top is a gorgeous golden color, perhaps due to Kohno's unique finish. Have a look at all of the pictures to see the complete condition. I can take pictures at request too.
The guitar is very comfortable to play with a wonderful neck and low action. I haven't measured it, but it is nothing like some of my old Ramirez guitars where you almost had to fight with the guitar just to play it.
Please check the pictures to see the detailed condition, and ask any questions. Please message me when interested in buying!
Includes very good condition hardshell case. I love this guitar and am sad to let it go, but have acquired too many guitars and it's silly for a guitar of this caliber to go unused. My hope is that it goes to someone who will enjoy it as much as I have!
