About This Listing

This Les Paul pre-reissue from 1993 is an attempt to recreate Gibson's most sought after sunburst Les Paul of the late fifties. Those famous 50's guitars were made of Honduran Mahogany, Brazilian Rosewood, and Michigan Maple, and finished in nitrocellulose lacquer. This 1993 incarnation used of course modern manufacturing methods, and available materials. Forty years from now, it will also be a classic from a bygone era. This guitar was produced during the first year of the custom shop, before the historic line. It is one of the first 1959 Custom Shop Reissues, all of which were painted by Tom Murphy. This guitar is never been played, in the perfect state as it left the custom shop. With it's superb gorgious flametop it's a unique one-off.......

Product Overview
Before the introduction of the Gibson Custom Shop Historic line of official reissues, Gibson began producing replicas of their late '50s "Burst" Les Pauls as early as 1982. Over time, these replicas became closer to what would eventually be released in 1993 as the first Custom Shop Historic '59 Les Paul Reissue. The period from 1990 - 1992 represent the closest analogs to Gibson's early Custom Shop models, but were still produced in small batches for various retailers, and feature a variety of specifications and appointments.
