Awesome Deagan Model 30 Vibraharp for sale!

Serial # 2751.

Made between 1938 & 1942, this Vibraphone has 2-1/2 octaves, cardboard resonator tubes & is very portable due to its ability to be folded up & carried with the handle.

It looks awesome & is a great piece of history, but the most important thing is that it sounds fantastic!

Originally, this came with a single-speed motor, but has since been upgraded to a 2-speed motor with a grounded 3-prong plug. However, the original motor will be included in the sale if you wish to re-install it.

This is not refurbished, but the bars are in tune & everything seems to be in great working condition except for the following issues:

-The 2-speed motor does not currently work. I have applied contact cleaner in the past to get it going again, but due to the age of this instrument I can't guarantee anything so it should be considered not-working at the time of purchase.

-One of the braces running along the bottom of the vibraphone is bent at the end (see last photograph) & should be bent back to shape to secure the vibraphone when standing. As you can see from the first photo, the back left leg leans inward because of this. It still stands on it's own regardless, but it could be much more stable with this done.

-One of the cardboard resonator tubes has more wear to it than the others (see photos), but nothing that affects the sound or playability.

Lastly, even though the original motor will be included, I cannot guarantee that it works. When I bought this 2 years ago, the 2-speed motor was already installed.

Overall, this instrument is beautiful & sounds amazing, but the fact is that I just can't play it well enough to justify keeping it.

I'm a musician & not a collector so I would rather see this go to a fellow musician who can actually play it (or who wants to learn to play) than be a cool piece of decorative furniture in my studio.

Again, in addition to being only 2-1/2 octaves, this folds up very nicely so it's great for small studios or tighter spaces. It will also fit in your car when you come to pick it up!
Please inspect photos closely for cosmetic condition, taking into account that this instrument is 79 to 83 years old!

*I can include a set of really nice mallets if you need them at no extra charge, just let me know.

Lastly, I'm about 4 hours from Chicago & from what I understand "Century Mallet" can restore these there in what is the former Deagan factory itself!

Again, due to the age & condition of the vibraphone, it's being sold "as-is." If you have any questions at all, please message me - thanks!
