Up for sale, a Moon JJ-5 five string Jazz Bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A boutique Japanese bass brand rarely seen outside its country of origin, the JJ-5 is an expertly crafted instrument boasting a mahogany body, hard maple neck, thick slab ebony fretboard, active Bartolini pickups, and gold hardware. Thick and growly with plenty of definition, the Moon JJ-5 has tons of low end power and oomph, with an expressive midrange quality and ample EQ control given the active Bartolini preamp. Rolling back the treble offers a wide, deep rumble with smooth thump, and the tone stays very articulate thanks to the glassy, immediate response of the slab ebony fretboard. The bass weighs 10lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-125 roundwound strings.
The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile with modest shoulder, and this fast and easily navigable profile measures .780" deep at the 1st fret and .900" at the 12th. The thick slab ebony fretboard features pearl dot inlay and stock medium jumbo fretwire that shows sparingly little wear, playing cleanly in every register. The scale length is a full 34”, and the nut measures 1 7/8" in width. The headstock face features a gold Moon waterslide decal, and the gold tuning machines turn very smoothly with light surface patina.
The Bartolini preamp features dual Volume knobs as well as active Treble and Bass knobs with center detent pots. The bridge is a top loader design and hardware includes the quartet of knurled gold knobs, side jack, and Schaller strap buttons. Cosmetic wear is limited to a couple spots of finger wear through the finish to the treble side of the pickups and some light finish scratches on the body as a whole. The original protective brown paper and Bartolini advert are intact on the rear control cavity cover. The neck profile sports a smooth satin finish with light palm wear favoring the treble shoulder for an extra smooth worn-in feel.
The original dark brown hardshell case is included with burgundy leather ends and the Moon badge on the exterior.
