2001 Martin D-18CW Clarence White Commemorative Edition

There weren't many made and these guitars rarely come up for sale anymore - likely because they have gained a reputation as one of the best sounding Martins out there.

Clarence White was one of the most influential acoustic and electric guitarists of his time. The Martin D-18CW Clarence White Commemorative Edition was released in 2001 in honor of the legendary guitarist who died tragically in 1974.

Inspired by the 1952 Martin D-18 Clarence White used for lead picking in the 1960s, this dreadnought features a highly figured set of Quilted Mahogany for the back and sides topped with a premium Adirondack Spruce Top.

Other features include forward shifted Adirondack scalloped bracing, blank fretboard except for Clarence’s signature in Pearl at the 20th fret and Abalone rosette. African Black Ebony was used for the fretboard and bridge along with a Genuine Mahogany neck with vintage Nickel Waverly tuners. 

Limited to a run of only 292 Collector’s Edition guitars, the interior label is signed by Michelle White Bledsoe and C.F. Martin IV.

This D-18CW is in excellent condition with the usual very light scratches and swirls expected of a 20 year old instrument. Other than that there is some minor wear on the headstock edge most visible when looking down on it.  Also very difficult to see but after a long time evaluating with a very bright light I was able to finally find what looks a repair of some small cracks around the endpin, but repairs were done very well - impossible to photograph.  I added a close up pic so you can see (or not see) what I mean.  It wears its age very well - the many pictures here tell the story.

It includes an aftermarket pickup - appears to be a K&K mini - no mods required for install and easy removal if you'd rather a pure acoustic.

This is a wonderful sounding bluegrass guitar with all the volume, punch and balance you need for any jam. Very well taken care of and preserved.  I have included a video link showcasing the sound of another of the same model guitar below.

Beware the glare, as this guitar is very glossy and glare sometimes seems like imperfections.
