Up for sale, a 1950's Magnatone blue pearloid lap steel in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. This vintage steel has a smooth, snappy tone via the original single coil pickup mounted below the large chrome pickup cover and beneath the blue pearloid wrap, and the steel is strung with roundwound 12s with a plain G string.
The neck features a 24 fret range and 22 1/2" scale length with a white playing surface framed by bronze pinstriping, also featuring bronze diamond and filigree F position markers. The aluminum nut measures 2 5/16" in width, and the stock open-gear strip tuners have incredibly clean nickel plating. The 3rd string tuner arm has a slight bend to it, yet all tuners turn smoothly, fitted with the original white oval buttons. The Magnatone waterslide decal on the headstock face is flawless, and the serial number plate on the reverse side is equally as pristine.
The pickup retains its original windings, mounted below the blue pearloid wrap. The original cream Volume and Tone knobs are intact, and the wiring harness features replacement full-size pots and the original large paper-in-oil tone capacitor. Featuring a string through body design, the strings cross an aluminum bridge, ensuring maximum resonance and also an articulate treble character.
The blue pearloid is remarkably preserved with great dimension, showing no undue shrinkage of the material. There is light wear on the back edge near the string ferrules and some darkening of the pearloid on the bass-side lower bout edge.
The original form-fit faux alligator black chipboard case is included, retaining the original functional latches and leather handle.
