This is a beautiful all maple instrument with lovely birdseye on both the neck and resonator. It is hard to find a lot of info on these old brands, but Slingerland and Maybell were related--and often times, one maker made instruments for others. Slingerland made banjos in the 1920's and stopped around the war. It is safe to say that this instrument is from around the 1920's. Maybell made both budget instruments and professional grade. By the quality of the maple used and the construction in general, it is clear that this is a high grade instrument. It is full, loud, resonant, and harmonic. I love it and how it sounds, but did not know it was a 4 string instead of 5. I looked into converting it and I did not want to ruin what a beautifully preserved instrument this thing is. I have to let this go and try to find a 5 string of similar quality. Also includes nice hard shell case. I should also mention there is a small crack on one of the tuning pegs. I will upload a better picture if someone is interested. Shoot any questions my way.
