FUNCTION - Equalizer

DESCRIPTION - This listing is for a MANLEY "Pultec" Equalizer owned by producer Jerry Finn. This is one of Jerry's prized pieces and integral part of his guitar sound. 

From Producer Ryan Hewitt :

"We were just getting into the blink-182 record, and Jerry turned me on to using the Manley Enhanced Pultec EQ as the tone shaper for all the guitar tracks that we cut. The amp heads were in the control room with us, run through long speaker cables out into the living room of the house to the cabinets. Mics went into preamps that were out in the live room via short, high quality mic cables. Long snakes brought the line level signals into the control room we had set up in the guest wing of the house.

All the guitar signals (typically pre-amped with Manley, Mastering Labs and Chandler TG-2s) ran line-in to a BCM-10 that Jerry had just bought. We rarely used any EQ on the 1073s, opting to move or change mics instead, but we bussed all the mics through the Manley Pultec, and used its broad midrange curve to dial in the tone we wanted.

I absolutely fell in love with this technique, and started searching for one of my own. A pair popped up on Ebay for a reasonable price, but I didn't feel that I could afford the pair at that time, so I asked Jerry if he wanted one of them. "I only buy things in consecutive serial number pairs" he said. Being young and stupid, I just bought them anyway. They showed up a few weeks later, and wouldn't you know it, they were the next serial numbers after his. What's the likelihood of that ever happening???  Now, of course, he wanted one of them, and I had to rub it in by not selling it to him!" - Ryan Hewitt
