1993 Alvarez Dana L.A. Scoop Electric designed by Dana Sutcliffe Purchased in 2011, and taken on as a custom rebuild project, I’ve decided it’s time to let this piece of history go.
Up front, there is resoldering work to do. All the pickups measure working, but neither single coil are completely connected to the 5-way switch. The 9-volt battery connection also needs to be rewired for the “DSR Harmonic Enhancer” to function . I am including a second of these preamp circuits (assembled on another potentiometer) in the purchase. To be clear (one of the two) DSR/Volume pot,a Tone pot, the 5-way switch and original humbucker are all still wired together, however I would inspect and resolder every connection to be safe.
The (6) drop-in string saddle blocks are missing, as is the screw-on tremolo arm. The body, discolored from time, is in excellent condition. The neck is in very good condition. It’s very thin and plays great. The frets were dressed professionally in 2016. In early 2017 I stopped working on rebuilding/restoring this guitar. The rosewood fretboard was inspected and cleaned every 6 months, even after I stopped the the rebuild, to ensure stability. Like all instruments I have/sell, this was kept in a smoke-free humidity controlled environment. The original hard case exterior is excellent. One of the interior pockets needs the carpeting replied inside. Overall the interior is in very good to excellent condition.
Finally, included is a custom cut clear pick guard. The original idea was to make this a 2-pickup guitar with a concentric control knob and 5 or 7-way switch for advanced tone options. There are 2 decals which can be removed with some effort and care. You can see one tiny spider crack (which is stable) near the shaft cutout.
THE REST OF THE STORY: The previous owner had replaced the tremolo system with an “upgraded” (cheap aftermarket trem, allowed the ball end of the string to stay on), and some various additional “improvements”. He still had most the original parts (tremolo minus the bar, pickups and tuning machines), which I paid extra for and are included in this sale. What he had replaced them with looked, and sounded, like it all had been sourced from an electric sold by Sears in the late 80s. Fortunately, I have a trustworthy luthier who was able to clean and restore. He used said parts to rebuild another guitar for a kid down on his luck.
