A very nice Regal Hawyofone Acoustic Lap Steel Guitar dating from around 1935, with what I believe is the original chipboard case, offered for sale here. The Regal Hawyofone Acoustic Lap Steel Guitar is in overall very good condition, there is some light edge wear on the front and back of the guitar, a couple of very small dings on the front of the body, and some cracks in the "Mother of Toilet Seat" pickguard as seen in the photos (the flash from the digital camera sometimes brings out marks that are not visible to the naked eye). I believe the top and back are mahogany. The body top is adorned with a floral decal pattern as was common on some Regal guitars. The fretboard is also fully adorned with a "Mother of Toilet Seat" surface. The scale length is 24 1nd 1/4 inches and the lower bout is 13 and 5/8 inches. As seen in the photo of the heel of the neck there is a very slight separation where the the neck joins the body. I've had this guitar for over 2 years now, the neck was like this when I acquired it and it has not changed. As I was stringing up this guitar when I first bought it, I determined that an set of extra light D'Addario Strings was going to be too much for the guitar, as the low E string was putting undo strain on the tuner as I was trying to bring the string to pitch. I wound up putting together a custom set of strings from a couple of different sets, so the string gauges on the guitar now from low to high are .030, .026, .023, .016, .013, .010, and it is tuned to Open E 9th Tuning, B-E-G#-B-E-F#, no low E note. As you can hear on the You Tube video the guitar has a beautiful acoustic tone and good projection, and the configuration of the strings and tuning fit the guitar well. The chipboard case in in overall very good condition, the handle, latches, and hinges are in very good condition and function properly.
